All the detail on Vodafone’s new mobile and home broadband pricing from July 10th

Last week, Vodafone switched on its 5G network and during the presentation the company announced a range of totally unlimited data plans, which become available from tomorrow. There are also some other changes, which are explained below.

Vodafone has now given all the information on the new unlimited data plans, which sit alongside brand new Vodafone Red plans. The prices below are for SIM-only connections.

Three unlimited plans exist, with differing monthly pricing that depends on the maximum speed a customer wishes to have access to; 2Mbps, 10Mbps or unlimited.

All the new unlimited and Red plans are activated for 5G access, but are equally available for users of 2G-4G handsets.

Users of older tariffs can request 5G access to be added to their account, ideal if buying a 5G handset SIM-free, although it is not clear if this is an official policy. Nevertheless, people have been successful in gaining access to 5G after making a call to customer services. (If you have done this, please let me know in the comments below).

The new Vodafone Red plans have no speed capping, but retain a fixed monthly data allowance instead. These are 1GB (£11 per month), 5GB (£15/month) and 20GB (£20/month) and all come with unlimited calls and texts.

Users wishing to buy a handset plan from Vodafone can choose from the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G or the Xiaomi MiMix 3 5G (see my 4G version review) and any of the new plans detailed here.

Roaming cap

With the new unlimited plans comes a fair use policy that caps data to 25GB when abroad.

Users of existing Vodafone plans with more than 25GB of data can tether their whole data allowance when roaming, so it is worth bearing this in mind before changing plan if 25GB isn’t sufficient for you when travelling.

All of the new plans come with roaming in 48 destinations as standard.

Mobile + Home Broadband

Vodafone is also launching a discount for anyone taking up an 18-month SIM only plan with a home broadband offering at the same time, with a £3 overall saving.

For a limited time (July 10th to August 14th 2019), home broadband customers will receive a free Amazon Echo Plus that can make and receive calls using a single number.

Added Entertainment

In the past, Vodafone Red Entertainment plans came bundled with a free service for the duration of the minimum term of the contract (12-24 months). The choices were Now TV, Amazon Prime Video, Sky Sports Mobile TV or Spotify Premium.

It will now cost an additional £6 to add one of these to any unlimited plan, or the Red 20GB plan.

Every plan comes with access to Vodafone’s loyalty scheme, VeryMe, which offers discounts on a range of products and services. One recent addition is two adult Odeon cinema tickets for £7 (£3.50 each) with a voucher code available once per week.

5G Router

There is also a promotion on the 5G Huawei-made Gigacube home router, which sees a discount that makes the new 5G router available for the same price as the 4G model.

On an 18-month contract, you can opt for a 100GB, 200GB or unlimited plan for £30, £40 and £50 per month, respectively.

There’s an up-front cost for the hardware, of £50-100 on the 18-month plan, or £325 on a 30-day plan.

Other promotions

Finally, new customers can enjoy a free three-month subscription to cloud gaming service Hatch, as well as adding IoT devices (such as Vodafone’s pet tracker, luggage tracker or 4G security camera) for between £2 and £4 a month.

Adding further accounts will come with a 15% discount for each additional line.
