OPPO Launches in the UK and brings RX17 Neo, RX17 Pro and Find X exclusively to Carphone Warehouse

The Chinese are definitely in full takeover mode right now, with OPPO following close behind Xiaomi in bringing its products to the UK in an official capacity.

No more lengthy waits for importing direct from China, as three of its latest phones are now available to pre-order from Carphone Warehouse (and Currys) with deliveries starting from 13th February.

This means a UK spec phone, with UK power supply and a full warranty.

A very cold snowy evening for a very hot launch event

Terence Tan, executive director of sales at OPPO used the iconic Tower Bridge in London to introduce the company to media and partners, with a chance to get a quick look at the three new handsets powered by various Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets and all running OPPO’s own ColorOS on top of Android.

OPPO RX17 Pro

Designed for night shooting, the RX17 Pro comes with a dual 20/12-megapixel rear camera arrangement and 3D TOF (Time-of-Flight) stereo camera, and a 25-megapixel selfie camera. Real time HDR support gets the best from every image, in all conditions.

A 6.4-inch waterdrop display incorporates a hidden fingerprint unlock and Corning Gorilla Glass 6.

The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710 SoC with Color OS 5.2. There’s 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

Charging is extremely fast thanks to Super VOOC technology, OPPO’s own tech that promises a 0-40% charge of the 3,700mAh battery in just 10 minutes, or 40 minutes to reach a full charge.

The phone also has a design that is resistant to fingerprints, while fog glass gives the body a soft look and feel, plus added durability.

The RX17 Pro will retail SIM-free for £549.

OPPO RX17 Neo

Featuring the same sized 6.4-inch display as the Pro, the more affordable variant is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660, with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

The camera setup consists of a 16/2-megapixel dual camera setup, with a 25-megapixel selfie camera.

The battery is also slightly smaller at 3,600mAh and comes without the rapid charging tech on the Pro model.

The RX17 Neo will retail SIM-free for £319.

OPPO Find X

The jewel in the crown is the Find X, an all-screen phone that hides the selfie camera in a slide-up panel in a similar style to the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 – but in this case, fully motorised.

The 6.42-inch display has an impressive 93.8% screen-to-body ratio, while the phone also has Qualcomm’s current flagship Snapdragon 845 chipset with 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage.

The camera setup comprises a motorised pop-up 25-megapixel selfie camera on the front, while the back gets a 20/16-megapixel setup.

The Find X will retail SIM-free for £799.

Future developments

The launch devices are current models that are being brought officially to the UK, but OPPO’s entry into the UK brings with it some other news.

Terence Tan made a few announcements about the importance of the UK to its business. Firstly, given the UK’s reputation for creativity, OPPO is opening a design centre in London.

It will also be a partner for the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2019, as well as furthering tests of its 5G-enabled R15 smartphone in partnership with Qualcomm in the UK, with a commercial launch for later in the year.

More details of this will come at Mobile World Congress next month.
