Entry-level Huawei P40 Lite gets 5G, costs less than £400

Huawei has added 5G to the entry level P40 Lite, and it also comes at a rather appealing price.

With its more subtle cut-out for a single selfie camera on the front 6.5-inch display, and a quad-camera on the rear that has a primary sensor of 64-megapixels, the P40 Lite 5G also offers the fastest possible data speeds and a greater level of future-proofing.

Even if you can’t use 5G right now (especially if you’re not able to travel around as much as you did), it gives you that capability in the future.

The P40 Lite is powered by Huawei’s own Kirin 820 chipset, a 7nm chip that boasts excellent energy efficiency.

The phone also supports 40W wired Huawei SuperCharge support, getting the 4,000mAh battery back up to full in no time.

Other features include an eBook mode to turn the phone into a virtual book with a ‘paper-like reading experience’ and an upgraded AppAssistant with new features like Smart Brightness Lock (prevents brightness changes when a game is launched), and Floating Window to let you interact with messages without leaving the game.

On the camera side, the P40 Lite 5G uses 4-in-1 pixel binning on the 64-megapixel camera to improve detail and capture more light.

The phone supports Huawei’s 960fps super slow-motion video recording, time-lapse, and Dual-View video that can record video from the front and rear cameras simultaneously.

The P40 Lite 5G comes in a choice of colours including Space Silver, Crush Green, and Midnight Black. The finishes on the rear panel reflect light in different ways depending on the angle.

Security wise, you’re protected by a fingerprint sensor integrated iwthin the side power button, offering a quicker unlock speed and higher accuracy.

Like other new Huawei phone releases, the P40 Lite 5G does not ship with Google Mobile Services. Instead users get access to Huawei’s replacement, as well as Huawei’s own AppGallery app store (other third-party app stores can also be used).

Pricing & Availability

The phone comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and will be available to pre-order from June 3rd to June 16th, ahead of its release on June 17th.

The retail price is £379.99, and those who pre-order can get a free pair of Huawei Freebuds 2 via redemption.
