OnePlus 8T will have glossy fingerprint resistant glass: It’s not a diamond, it’s aquamarine
OnePlus is continuing the drip-feeding ahead of the OnePlus 8T launch on October 14th.
Today it’s about the smooth backed glass cover that offers a silky-smooth texture on the Aquamarine Green variant.
Read about it below….
Friends,
Ever since the OnePlus 6, we’ve been exploring ways to engineer glass into a back cover that delivers a slightly translucent and refined look, together with a smooth feeling when you touch it. On the OnePlus 8 Pro, we crafted our fifth-generation matte glass cover to offer a silky-smooth texture. This time, we shifted our attention to the glossy glass back to bring you something new.
Our ID engineers have explored ways to bring out the translucent and glossy texture of the glass, while maintaining a thin and sturdy profile that also reduces fingerprint accumulation. After exploring countless iterations with different CMFs (color, material and finish) for more than 4 months, we achieved a breakthrough and produced a remarkable glossy back cover for the new Aquamarine Green variant of the OnePlus 8T. This version takes advantage of diffuse reflection, a form of light refraction that scatters light in an expansive array of angles and directions, to produce a clean, gleaming surface that effectively mitigates the buildup of fingerprints.
Throughout development, we tried and tested hundreds of films before landing on the ideal type, which contains 7 layers, to complement the high-gloss finish and bring out the unique shade between green and blue. We never could have achieved this if we had followed the conventional development process of producing color films, but I’m proud to say that our efforts paid off. For the OnePlus 8T, we were able to produce one of the most advanced films in the industry, achieving a high-quality finish that raises the OnePlus standards for beautiful design.
I hope you enjoy the design of the OnePlus 8T like I do. See you on October 14.
