Realme 8 5G global launch takes place April 22nd, using all-new MediaTek 5G chipset.
The Realme 8 series is about to get a 5G upgrade, with the new Realme 8 5G getting its global debut next week. It will be the first phone to use MediaTek’s Dimensity 700 5G chipset.
The launch kicks off at 0930 UK time and you can watch the event as it unfolds on the livestream embedded below, or on catchup afterwards if you can’t make it.
Realme is using the MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset, which promises to bring premium 5G features to a more affordable platform. The octa-core processor comprises a mix of ARM Cortex A76 and A55 cores, running up to 2.2GHz. The ARM Mali-G57 MC2 GPU runs at 950MHz.
On the connectivity side, Dimensity 700 offers two carrier aggregation on 5G that will prove valuable when networks add new bands to their 5G coverage later this year, as well as Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) and Bluetooth 5.1 support.
On the camera side, the chip offers support for image sensors up to 64-megapixels, and on the display side there’s support for FHD+ resolution displays with up to 90Hz refresh rate.
This would suggest that the Realme 8 5G will follow the same path as the Realme 7 5G, featuring a lower resolution primary camera, but surpassing it on connectivity, while coming with a lower retail price. However, as I found in my review of the Realme 7 5G, it actually beat the Realme 7 Pro on performance too!
This is of course speculation until Realme fills in the blanks next week.
