Honor’s new 50 series gets Qualcomm chipset and a likely return of Google Mobile Services
Honor is back! After its split from Huawei, the company now enjoys more freedom and flexibility. The Honor 50 and Honor 50 Pro were released today in China and will be coming to the UK later this year.
Powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset, both models will sit in the mid-high end tier, with the Honor 50 Pro coming with a 6.52-inch screen, while the Pro jumps up to 6.72-inches.
Both phone displaus come with 120Hz refresh rates and 300Hz touch sampling rate, as well as two front-facing cameras that will be ideal for content creators. A 12-megapixel sensor covers the video, with a 100 degree field-of-view, while a 32-megapixel sensor is retained for the stills. A Bluetooth headset can also be used as a remote mic for even more flexibility.
Flip the phone over and both models get a whopping great 100-megapixel primary camera, 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera, 2-megapixel depth, and 2-megapixel macro camera to bring the total camera count to six.
When it comes to the battery and charging, there is a difference where the Honor 50 has a 4,300mAh battery and 66W fast charging, and the Pro a 4,000mAh battery but with 100W fast charging – one of the fastest charging speeds available right now. 20 minutes charge time gets the Honor 50 to 70% from zero, and 90% from zero on the Pro.
Throw in a range of colours, the latest Magic UI 4.2 (which should come with Google Mobile Services when released outside of China) and software features to boost the gaming performance of the Snapdragon chip, and both models should be quite exciting to check out when they arrive here later in the year.
