Realme 8 Pro gets official launch, along with a new watch and earbuds

The Realme 8 Pro featured at Realme’s global launch event, and the company also its first stainless steel smartwatch and new noise cancelling earbuds – all available to buy at the end of this month.

The flagship model in the 8 series of Realme phones will retail for £279 when it goes on sale March 31st at the Realme store and Amazon.

Although other models in the range weren’t announced today, there’s very likely going to be more models added in the future – including a 5G variant at some point.

As Realme already showed at an earlier teaser event, the Realme 8 Pro comes with a Samsung 108-megapixel primary sensor, capable of saving photos at a maximum resolution of 12,000 x 9,000 pixels. In normal usage, however, the image sensor will utilise 9-in-1 pixel binning to save a more manageable 12-megapixel image.

The camera can also take photos at up to 3x zoom without picture loss, by combining a series of 12-megapixel photos (eight in total) to reduce noise and capture all available light. Realme claims this can beat some phones with optical telephoto zoom lenses in terms of overall sharpness.

The phone also introduces tilt-shift and starry time-lapse modes, which can be used for video for those wishing to experiment with these features. The Starry time-lapse will capture 30 photos over 480 seconds, to create a 1 second time-lapse video showing the movement of the sky at night.

Great photos and video would be nothing without a great screen, and the Realme 8 Pro comes with a 6.4-inch Full HD+ 60Hz Super AMOLED display with 180Hz touch sampling rate and a peak brightness of 1000 nits.

Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720 chipset, the Realme 8 Pro comes with a 4,500mAh battery and 50W wired-charging that gets from 0-100% in 47 minutes. It also comes with Realme UI 2 (built on Android 11) out of the box.

Realme Watch S Pro

Realme also launched its first stainless steel watch, with a 1.39-inch AMOLED touchscreen and always-on display. Supporting 15 sport modes, water resistance to 50 metres, and coming with GPS for accurate tracking, the watch will retail for £119 but with an early-bird offer of £99.

Realme Buds Air 2

Finally, Realme has its new Buds with Active Noise Cancellation that can effectively reduced most low-frequency sounds, with a noise reduction depth of 25dB.

With a 10mm driver, and 88ms low latency mode, the Realme Buds Air 2 are priced at £46.99, but reduced to £36.99 for early birds.
