Netgear launches Orbi Voice: Mesh Wi-Fi with Alexa enabled Harman Kardon speaker

Netgear has launched the world’s first mesh Wi-FI system with an integrated Alexa-powered smart speaker and Harman Kardon tuned audio.

Perhaps begging the question ‘why didn’t someone think of this sooner?’ the new Orbi Voice smart speaker will not only use the skills of Alexa to answer questions and perform tasks around the home, but also let you enjoy high-quality audio too – and all without having multiple devices dotted around the home.

Of course it will integrate with Netgear’s existing Orbi Wi-Fi system to create a superfast wireless network throughout your home (up to 186 square meters), with speeds of up to 3Gbps, but you’ll also be able to buy a separate starter kit – or mix and match as you desire.

A mobile app will let you manage the Harman Kardon audio settings to get the best possible listening experience, while a four microphone array means Alexa will be able to hear your commands without any problems.

Audio is provided by a 3.5-inch front-facing woofer and 1-inch tweeter.

A package consisting of a tri-band Wi-Fi router, one Orbi Voice smart speaker and a Wi-Fi satellite will be available during September. Existing Orbi Wi-Fi mesh network users will be able to add the Voice smart speaker separately later in the year.

Pricing is still to be confirmed.
