Honor Magic 2

Honor upstages its own product launch with a teaser of a new Magic phone

Honor used the official launch event for the Honor Play (where it confirmed the UK retail price to be a rather impressive £279) to end with a teaser for another phone coming later this year.

The original Magic phone from 2016

Following the launch of the Honor Magic two years ago, bringing AI functions to the Honor range, the President of Honor ended the proceedings with a showing of the Magic 2, and further amazed attendees by pulling out a working prototype to show off a completely bezel-less display, along with a pop up camera.

Unlike other phones adopting slide-up cameras to get rid of bezels, it appears the Magic 2 will use a manual sliding system – akin to feature phones from a range of manufacturers in the early 2000s, including Sony Ericsson and Nokia.

The Magic 2 will also come with Huawei’s as yet unannounced Kirin 980 chipset and 40W Magic Charging support.

It isn’t clear if the Magic 2 will come to the UK even when it is announced, but as long as one European network takes an interest it could be enough to see a global edition made that could be imported.

Meanwhile, check out my hands on with the Honor Play, which is on sale as of today.
