O2 becomes final ‘main’ network to launch unlimited data

O2 has today made it four out of four for primary networks offering truly unlimited data in the UK.

Three has offered ‘all you can eat’ data for years. Vodafone then joined in earlier this year, followed recently by EE.

Starting at £33 per month, on an 18-month SIM-only plan, customers can now get unlimited data with no speed capping.

However, there is a fair use policy of 650GB and O2 reserves the right to move people on to another plan if usage is considered excessive over a period of time. Other networks have fair use policies of between 1TB and 3TB, although in the past Three has not indicated what action, if any, it would take.

The jury is out on whether any network should do anything at all when offering unlimited (or ‘limitless’) data. My person belief is unlimited should be just that – unlimited.

With O2 still to turn on its 5G network, the current offer is for a 4G plan – but 5G will be available from next month, with the plan available for both SIM-only and handset contracts.
