Honor is now free to start on an all-new path in 2021 as it splits away from Huawei, starting with a brand-new smartphone – the Honor View 40.
Free of the problems it endured when part of Huawei, the now fully independent Honor is able to enjoy freedom to do deals with the likes of AMD, Intel, Microsoft, Sony, MediaTek and Qualcomm.
Hopefully this also means a global release of the new Honor View 40 announced today will see the return of Google Mobile Services support.
The international version will likely be called the Honor V40 when it comes later in the year, and the return of things like the Play Store, Google Pay, Drive, Photos and other essential Google services and apps, should help Honor claw back its lost market share.
For years, Honor gained a strong reputation for offering high-spec devices at affordable prices.
Despite many new entrants in the global market now having arrived, Honor is still a recognisable brand in the UK and around Europe.
The View 40/V40 will come with a large 6.72-inch 10-bit 120Hz OLED display, 50-megapixel RYYB primary camera (as seen on Huawei flagship phones), a MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ 5G chipset, and 66W SuperCharge charging of the internal 4,000mAh battery. There’s even 50W wireless charging too.
You can see the full specifications below, along with photos of the phone in three different colours; Midnight Black, Rose Gold, and Titanium Silver.
Phone coming soon; laptop on sale now
Pricing and availability for a global model will be announced later, but Honor has announced today that the Intel i5-1021U powered Honor MagicBook Pro, with Nvidia GeForce MX350 discrete graphics, is available to pre-order in the UK right now for £949.99 (or three equal £313.66, interest-free, monthly payments) with shipping forecast for early February.
The company is also running a winter sale until January 29th, with up to 60% off selected products. These deals can be found on the Honor website.
Finally, the existing MagicBook 14 and 15 will soon get upgraded models to buy in the form of 11th-gen Intel i7 processors and Wi-Fi 6 support.
