Oppo launches new phone in UK: Reno 10 5G (but no signs of Pro or Pro+ models yet)

After a very quiet year so far, Oppo is introducing a new phone to its 2023 portfolio. This time it is one phone from the newly released Reno 10 series; the base Reno 10 model.

Available to buy with immediate effect at EE or Oppo’s own website, the Reno 10 5G sells for £399 and comes with an impressive specification, including a premium 120Hz curved-display with minimal bezels.

While being the base model in the series, with no Pro model to replace the previous Reno 8 Pro I raved about last year, that doesn’t mean this phone doesn’t still include a lot of high-end features for mid-range money, from that large display, to a camera set up that includes a 2x telephoto portrait lens. There’s also an ultra-wide camera to make this a highly versatile device.

There’s also a large 5,000mAh capacity battery and Oppo’s trademark fast-charging at 67W, which all culminates in a good mid-range package worthy of consideration.

The Reno 10 5G is finished in a silvery grey colour and is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7050 SoC.

24 August 2023, LONDON —- OPPO today announced the launch of its latest Reno smartphone — the OPPO Reno10 5G — in the UK. Inheriting the iconic thin and lightweight design of the Reno series, the new Reno10 5G features a more comfortable grip and premium visual experience with a 3D curved design that measures as little as 7.89mm in thickness and weighs just 185g.

Equipped with SUPERVOOC flash charge and OPPO’s exclusive Battery Health Engine, the Reno10 5G provides faster charging with longer-lasting battery life. Together with a powerful SoC, large storage, an upgraded Ultra-conductive Cooling System, and the latest ColorOS 13.1, the Reno10 5G delivers strong and reliable performance alongside an all-round smooth experience guaranteed for up to four years.

The Reno10 5G is also equipped with an Ultra-Clear Portrait Camera System consisting of a triple camera combo that includes an industry-first 32MP Telephoto Portrait Camera powered by a Sony IMX709 RGBW sensor. With the 2X optical zoom of the Telephoto Portrait Camera and upgraded Portrait Mode, the Reno10 5G is designed to help users shoot natural, ultra-clear portraits in any situation, continuing to live up to the Reno series’ role as The Portrait Expert.

New 3D curved design, with a slim body and comfortable grip

The Reno10 5G features the type of slim and lightweight design that has become a mainstay of the Reno series. The 3D micro-curved body makes the device appear visually thinner while providing a more comfortable grip for the user. The Reno10 5G brings fresh-new color finishes and is available in an eye-catching colour finish based on the OPPO Glow – Silvery Grey.

On the back, an advanced splicing technique has been used to create a two-tone design around the camera area using glass and metal. The top half of this area houses the Main Camera, while the lower half contains the Telephoto Portrait Camera and the 112° Ultra Wide-angle Camera. The Main Camera is decorated with a finely textured material engraved with a laser beam-like texture that manipulates light and shadow in a way that symbolises the powerful camera capabilities that lie beneath.

The Reno10 5G features a 120Hz 3D Curved Screen boasting an industry-leading 93% screen to body ratio. With its 2.32mm ultra-thin lower bezel and 1.57 mm bezels on the left and the right, the practically edge-to-edge screen delivers a more immersive and boundless visual experience. The 6.7-inch large display features a 120Hz Ultra High Refresh Rate and support for 1 billion colors, creating a more responsive, detailed and lifelike visual experience.

Ultra-clear Portrait Camera System elevates portrait shooting

The Reno10 5G provides more powerful portrait shooting experiences. Laying the foundation for this is an upgraded Ultra-Clear Portrait Camera System with a new camera combo on the Reno10 5G. It features a large 64MP 1/2-inch sensor on its Main Camera for even greater image clarity, and a 32MP IMX709 Telephoto Portrait Camera for enhanced portrait experience. Users are empowered to easily capture ultra-clear photos with enhanced details.

Among these three cameras, the powerful 32MP Telephoto Portrait Camera supports a completely different shooting experience that opens the door to stunning portraits on smartphone. With its 2X optical zoom, the camera can be used to take high-resolution photos at a professional 47mm portrait focal length, capturing natural and undistorted portraits with stunning realism. A BG spin-coating process has also been used on the lens to create an infrared light-absorbing film that reduces veiling glare and boosts image purity. The camera’s IMX709 RGBW sensor can gather more light information, enabling users to shoot bright and sharp portrait images even in dark environments. 

When taking a picture of a friend in a crowd or against a complex background, the telephoto camera can be used to ‘pull’ the subject out and make them stand out as the clear focus of the image. By framing the shot with this professional portrait focal lengths of the telephoto camera, users can also visually compress the space and enlarge the landscape in the distance, helping to draw attention to both the subject and the background.

Drawing on this extremely powerful camera set-up, the Reno10 5G features a new Portrait Expert Engine, optimising the entire portrait shooting process in key areas such as subject recognition and segmentation, skin tone preservation and image clarity using OPPO’s AI super resolution algorithms and other advanced image processing techniques. With these optimisations, the Portrait Expert Engine helps users to capture truly faithful and flawless portraits in the updated Portrait Mode. With Portrait Mode, users now have access to a new 2X focal length brought by the Telephoto Portrait Camera, alongside the option to change the aperture setting from any value between f1.4 and f16. With these settings, the amount of bokeh and bokeh flare can be adjusted to create completely unique portrait styles with beautiful depth of field effects, while ensuring images remain natural and true-to-life.

All-round Upgraded Performance Brings All-time Smoothness

OPPO has long been ahead of the game when it comes to providing faster and more reliable charging technology, with the OPPO Reno10 5G several features have been introduced to further boost battery and charging performance. With 67W SUPERVOOCTM Flash Charge, the Reno10 5G offers rapid charging with the ability to charge the large, 5,000 mAh battery to 100% in approximately 47 minutes. Thanks to the additional support from OPPO’s exclusive Battery Health Engine, the effective battery lifespan of the Reno10 5G can be extended to as many as 1,600 charge and discharge cycles.

Providing core performance on the Reno10 5G is the MediaTek Dimensity 7050 5G mobile platform. It delivers super-powerful computing performance and a faster 5G experience, all with reduced power consumption. In terms of storage, the Reno10 5G comes with support for OPPO’s RAM Expansion technology. Through Multi-Screen Connect, users can connect the Reno10 5G to a PC for seamless work across multiple devices. Once connected, it’s easy to directly open, edit, copy or paste files on the phone using a computer, or transfer files like images, music, videos and more between both devices without using any mobile data. Notifications on the phone can be displayed on the computer in real-time, while camera and screenshot features can work simultaneously on both devices. Up to two phone applications can also be run simultaneously on a connected computer, making it a breeze to work across more than one smartphone app at the same time. With such seamless connection between multiple devices, working and enjoying entertainment across two screens becomes second nature.

The Smart AOD offers control for Spotify without having to unlock the phone. For people who regularly share chat screenshots with friends or post them on social media, Auto Pixelate can pixelate profile photos and names in the chat screenshot in just one click, helping to conveniently improve the privacy of users and their friends.
