Oppo celebrates its first year of operation in the UK

Today marks one year since Oppo launched in the United Kingdom, and brought us the RX17 Pro, RX17 Neo and the Find X, with an exclusive partnership agreement with Carphone Warehouse.

Since the launch event, the company went on to launch the Oppo Reno 5G exclusively on EE, announced sponsorship of The Championships, Wimbledon and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019.

Later in the year, Oppo partnered with Global Design Forum to showcase innovative design (a lot of Oppo’s smartphone design is carried out in the UK) at the V&A Museum.

By October, the Reno 2 series was launched at the English National Ballet in London, which included the Reno 2 and Reno 2 Z.

Closing the year, Oppo announced new tech at its innovation conference in China, including the first under-screen camera, AR glasses and further development of Oppo’s 5G ecosystem. Oppo is investing $7bn in R&D over the next three years.

“We knew when entering the UK that the handset market is saturated and consumers are more selective about upgrading their device. This gave us an opportunity to bring our innovations to the surface and launch products that will excite consumers again.

“Over the course of our first year, we brought the same qualities that have seen us become one of the top five smartphone brands in the world and adapted them specifically to meet the expectations UK smartphone users,

“From packing flagship quality features into beautiful designs like the RX17 Pro to boasting the fastest charging capabilities on the market with SuperVooc 2.0, and, of course, launching one of UK’s first 5G compatible phones with Reno 5G, it’s been an exciting start.

“As a brand, OPPO has always been about more than just phones – smartphones are one of many areas of the smart tech space we will be continuing to explore in 2020 and beyond.”

Kevin Cho, Oppo Managing Director

Having had an impressive start, Oppo is just weeks away from launching the Find X 2 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

I’ll be there to hopefully get a good hands-on look at the phone that is expected to be released in the UK shortly after.
