OnePlus setting on a new adventure with a new affordable smartphone

OnePlus is on the verge of launching a new phone that will pull pricing back to where things were when the company first started.

There are already plenty of rumours circulating online of a new 5G handset most likely using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765G chipset, or possibly a MediaTek Dimensity 5G chipset.

It is still expected to offer a premium experience, with excellent camera quality and features, while the design might hark back to early OnePlus handset designs.

An announcement is rumoured to take place in July, so it won’t be long to wait and if the OnePlus 8 series launch was anything to go by, you can probably expect many more teasers between now and the grand unveiling.

Hi friends,

Today is one of the most important days in the history of OnePlus.

Last month we introduced our new business strategy to bring more of our tech-leading products to more users around the world. This strategy is centered around two key areas, as outlined below, but founded on our Never Settle philosophy to create the best experience possible for our users.

First, we are looking to expand into some new product categories, bringing our Never Settle approach to a wider portfolio of products. We have already started doing this with the OnePlus TV, which has quickly become one of the most popular smart TVs among consumers in India, as well as our highly rated Bullets earphones and other accessories. Slowly but surely there will be more of this to come, so stay tuned.

Second, in order to give more people easier access to OnePlus products, we want to deliver more high-quality products at more affordable prices. To be clear, this is not a reactionary attempt to “go back to our roots,” as some people have speculated. Our goal has always been to build leading products that provide the best user experience at a comparatively affordable price point. And since our “roots” are actually in creating the best flagship smartphones, I see this part of our strategy as an important extension of the OnePlus value proposition.

Now, I’m excited to announce that we are extending our premium, flagship roots into a more affordable smartphone product line. I won’t go into much detail about this today, but I didn’t want to wait any longer to share this news with you.

As we have always done when we try something new, we are going to start relatively small with this new product line by first introducing it in Europe and India. This will give us some time to refine the product for additional markets while scaling up production to meet demand. I know many of you might not be too happy to hear this, but I want to be transparent with you about availability from the beginning. And, as they say, patience is a virtue. We are still a small company, and we have learned from past experience that this focused approach is the best way for us to try new things.

We’ve come a long way in the last 6 years, and now is the right time for us to bring you something new. I am really looking forward to this new beginning for OnePlus, and I hope you are too.

Never Settle

Pete Lau, OnePlus CEO
