Camera Group Test: OnePlus Nord, OnePlus 8, Oppo Find X2 Neo, Realme X50 5G and Sony Xperia 1 II (plus Huawei P40)

Last modified date

It’s taken a while to set this up, but on the next nine pages you’ll see the results of my recent photo group test of different 5G smartphones for all budgets.

Included are three affordable Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G 5G devices, ranging in price from £299 (Realme X50 5G) through to £379 for the OnePlus Nord and £599 for Oppo’s Find X2 Neo.

Also included is the OnePlus 8 (£549) and Sony’s impressive Xperia 1 II (£1099) – plus for the night shots on the last two pages I also compared with the Huawei P40 (£549.99) because, frankly, nothing else comes close when it comes to taking pictures in the dark.

The photos were taken in and around Snowdonia and near Cheltenham in late August 2020.

I haven’t commented on or rated the photos as I prefer to let you see the results for themselves and form your own opinion.

It’s also important to note that all photos were taken in automatic mode and each camera had one chance, so if it got the exposure wrong, or the focus was off, that’s the photo you’ll see here.

All of the smartphones offer manual modes, allowing a greater level of control, but day-to-day you’ll almost certainly just want to point and shoot.

  • Take a look through and please share your comments. Also, if you have any questions then please fire them over in the comments too.
  • Full reviews of the OnePlus Nord, Realme X50 5G and Sony Xperia 1 II will be coming later.
