Oppo launches Reno 8 series in UK: three models, plus a new tablet and fitness band

Oppo today used the Palais Brongniart in Paris to unveil three new Reno 8 models for the UK; the Reno 8 Lite, Reno 8, and the flagship Reno 8 Pro.

The Reno 8 Pro stands out at the top with the same MariSilicon X custom-NPU chip that is featured in Oppo’s award winning Find X5 Pro – greatly increasing the speed of post-processing of photos and enhancing low-light video.

The company also launched a new tablet, fitness wearable, and a new colour for the existing Enco X2 earbuds.

Oppo Reno 8 Lite

The budget Reno 8 Lite is a 5G device, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 695 platform – and includes a 6.43-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display (with 60Hz refresh rate), stereo sound, 4,500mAh battery with 33W wired charging, 8GB RAM, plus expandable microSDXC storage to boost the internal 128GB of storage by as much as 1TB more. The phone is IP54 rated.

On the camera side, the phone has a 64-megapixel f/1.8 wide-angle camera, enhanced with two additional depth and portrait sensors (2-megapixels each). On the front is a 16-megapixel camera.

The Reno 8 Lite measures 159.85 x 73.17 x 7.49mm, weighs in at 173g, and is available in Cosmic Black or Rainbow Spectrum.

Oppo Reno 8

The mid-level Reno 8 is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1300 SoC, with a 6.43-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display, but this time with a 90Hz refresh rate. There’s the same size 4,500mAh battery as the Lite, but with 80W wired charging. The phone is also IP54 rating, but lacks stereo sound, or storage expandability – this time coming with 256GB of fixed storage (and 8GB RAM).

The camera setup is enhanced with a 50-megapixel f/1.8 primary wide-angle camera, 8-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide, and a 2-megapixel f/2.4 macro. On the front of the phone is a 32-megapixel RGBW camera.

The Reno 8 measures 160 x 73.4 x 7.67mm and weighs 179g, with colour choices including Shimmer Black and Shimmer Gold.

Oppo Reno 8 Pro

The jewel in the crown is the flagship Reno 8 Pro, with MediaTek’s impressive Dimensity 8100-MAX chipset powering the phone, as well as a larger 6.7-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with 120Hz (variable) refresh rate, and 10 bit colour.

Like all three models, the Reno 8 Pro has a 4,500mAh battery and is charged with the bundled 80W wired charger, along with stereo sound and an IP54 rating.

The camera setup is the same as the Reno 8 (50-megapixel f/1.8 primary wide-angle camera, 8-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide, and a 2-megapixel f/2.4 macro. 32-megapixel RGBW selfie camera) but with two additional features.

Firstly the use of Oppo’s custom-silicon NPU, the MariSilicon X, to enhance photos and video (especially low-light video recording), and secondly, the addition of autofocus on the 32-megapixel front-facing camera.

Like the Reno 8, there’s 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

The Reno 8 Pro measures 161.2 x 74.2 x 7.33mm and weighs 186g, with Glazed Green and Glazed Black being the two colour options.

  • I will be reviewing the Oppo Reno 8 shortly – and posting photos on here and Instagram.

Unique features

All three phones ship with Android 12/ColorOS 12.1 – but will receive updates to Android 13 in Q1 2023. Oppo has also committed to a minimum of two OS updates (hopefully at the launch event, or shortly after, the exact number will be confirmed for the UK specifically – and I’ll update this page accordingly).

It is worth adding that with sustainability in mind, Oppo has also decided not to include a protective case in the box of these phones. This does mean you’ll need to purchase a protective case separately, if you don’t want to take the risk of using it ‘au naturel’ (well, I had to try and squeeze some French in to this post didn’t I?)

Oppo Pad Air

The Oppo Pad Air is Oppo’s first tablet launched in Europe, and it will retail for £239 – or come free with the Reno 8 Pro if you order between September 1st and 28th (see pricing and availability below).

The Oppo Pad Air has a 10.36-inch 2K display with quad speakers, and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 680 chipset.

It boasts over 10 hours of video playback, thanks in part to a large 7,100mAh battery.

Oppo Band2

The latest fitness band in the Oppo range is the Oppo Band2, a low-cost wearable that features a large 1.57-inch AMOLED display, with a 256×402 pixel resolution. It offers up to 500 nits of brightness for good outdoor readability, and is protected by 2.5D glass.

There are over 200 installed watchfaces, as well as 100 sport modes. There’s also NFC, GPS, heart rate monitoring, and an SpO2 blood oxygen sensor.

The 200mAh battery can last up to 14 days, and utilises Bluetooth Low Energy 5.0. It is compatible with Android and iOS devices, running at least Android OS 6 or iOS 10 respectively.
